The summer is the time when we can all take a breath and I can expose students to new music genres, groups and musicians. We're almost at the middle of the summer, so plan on improvising more until school starts up again. I've published a new video of Richard Galliano. This is a fusion of Tango and Jazz. The music is really beautiful and the musicians are stellar. I'm particularly amazed by the percussionist... :)

I hope you can join me on July 15th at the Wenona Concert Shell for our performance of "Pirates of Penzance". I'm playing first flute on this one. Another great reason that I'm encouraging my students to work on their doubles over the summer. One never knows when you'll be called upon to play one of them as a lead.

More to come...Enjoy this wonderful summer!!

I'm still working on getting this site up to speed. Because of the new format, finding time to add the video and music links that were on the old site as well as all of the documents that were available has been a challenge. I will try to get "New Student Docs" and scale sheets up as soon as possible. Maybe my New Year's Resolution, eh?

Feel free to keep bugging me about it...The nagging helps motivate me... Wink

This month, I was called for a week long gig which I accepted and then because of sudden and unavoidable circumstances couldn't do. I sent a student of mine, which worked out great. It was however, the first time I've sent a student to sub for me - and the first time that my student has ever had to sub for her teacher.

I am shamefully bad at adding entries here on a regular basis.... If anyone is even reading this blog anymore, I apologize for my lack of consistency.

I've been thinking a lot about my students lately. Especially my seniors heading out to college next year. Now is the time when they must figure out where they are going, do any auditioning that they may need to do (especially if they are going to major in music) and get themselves ready to leave home for the first time to begin their own adventure.

Reeds are a necessary evil. Think about the amount of money you spend on reeds each year and how many of those reeds are actually playable: It's a pretty grim ratio. However, knowing how to work with your reeds is a valuable skill.
